‘Play Me I’m Yours’ Comes to Brooklyn

'Play Me I'm Yours' Piano In Grand Army Plaza

60 pianos have been unveiled throughout New York City this morning for your playing pleasure, ten of which are distributed around Brooklyn.

Luke Jerram, a UK based artist, brought his project, Play Me I'm Yours, to New York City as the tenth city on a global tour that has been running since 2008. The pianos will be available until July 5th for anyone to play and is being kicked off with a one-day "music festival" of sorts that will feature 1,000 free performances citywide. People will also be allowed to decorate the pianos during their two week stay. Maybe Banksy can pay us another visit?

The project will be linked through a website giving each piano a separate page where people can post pictures, films and stories about the pianos which will help document the progression of the project.

In regard to the project coming to New York Luke said, “I’m so excited to see what will happen. The pianos are a blank canvas for everyone’s creativity so it’ll be interesting to see just how much talent is out there. I’ve always had the feeling that this artwork was meant to be presented here. When the pianos arrive on the street they’ll belong to the people of this great city. Enjoy!”

With the amount of talented musicians in and around the Williamsburg area and the weather hitting peak summer perfection, looks like it's going to be a good time to get out to McCarren park and hear what the local musicians have to offer - just please don't play chopsticks.
