For too long Williamsburg, Brooklyn has been without a proper movie theater. Which is a bit ironic considering the neighborhood is home to a large portion of New York City's creative community. But, now there is a light at the end of that tunnel.
IndieScreen is opening June 5th with three short films from the Brooklyn International Film Festival to serve as the theater's opening act. The facility features a High Definition projector, Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound, an 8 x 17 foot screen draped in front of a 10 x 20 foot stage which can be used for both film screenings and live performances. While they'll still offer popcorn, the entertainment space also features a full restaurant and bar, so expect a few upgrades from the usual theater drinking and dining options.
For those interested in showing their work, they welcome independent, undistributed documentaries or feature films to be presented by the filmmaker, and encourage sticking around afterwards for a Q&A with the audience. The screening room is equipped to project HD Cam, DigiBeta, HDV, DV Cam, MiniDV, BD, DVD, and directly from hard-drive via a 6,000 lumens, 3-chip, DLP Christie Digital projector.
Located on Williamsburg's south side at at 285 Kent Avenue, between South 1st and South 2nd Street. Visit their website for more details.
