Ditch The Fixie and Grab a Unicycle

Unicyclist

Unicyclist In McCarren / Todd Shaffer

After a day of running around I saw a couple of unicyclists practicing in McCarren Park along with a handful of half-naked hipsters, and even some half-naked hipster unicyclists. Alright so that last part was just my imagination. But lo and behold, Gothamist unearthed an organized unicyclist gang doing the unthinkable.

No, not a another naked bicycle unicycle ride in protest of the recent Hasidic removal of bike lanes on Williamsburg's Southside. Instead they are attempting to cross New York City's 2,078 bridges. The group's leader told the Post "A lot of people don't like bicyclists and bicycle politics, but everyone loves a unicycle... We even went down Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg where the Hasidic community rallied to have bike lanes removed, and they loved us there."

So, fixed-gear purists be damned, apparently real men unicycle. You can read about the group on their blog Unicycle NYC Bridge Tour.
