Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival Featuring De La Soul

2010 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival Featuring De La Soul

De La Soul Live on the DUMBO Waterfront, July 10

The annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival continues this year with a headline performance by De La Soul. The festival will be taking place starting on July 5th and running through July 10th at the Tobacco Warehouse and Brooklyn Bridge Plaza.

Tickets hit the shelf on May 3 and you can get them at BrooklynBodega.com

Executive Director of the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival puts De La Soul's attendance in perspective saying, “To be honest, we have been trying to get De La Soul to headline the Festival since we first came up with the idea in 2005. On many levels they are the perfect flag bearers for our mission to use Hip-Hop as an agent of change. For over 20 years they have traveled the world inspiring MC’s, producers, DJ’s and fans alike. I can think of no better artist to usher the Festival into its new home in Brooklyn Bridge Park.”

We are looking forward to another amazing festival following up on last years performances by Dead Prez, Pharoahe Monch and DJ Premier, Smif N Wessun and Grand Puba.

The calendar of events includes:

Monday, July 5th - Show & Prove: This Hip-Hop showcase of independent and local talent is the final event of Brooklyn Bodega’s three month Show & Prove competition.

Tuesday, July 6th - Bodega Education Initiative:  A day of panel discussions and seminars about the legendary producer, J Dilla. Speakers include Q-Tip, Ma Dukes Yancey, DJ Spinna and more.

Wednesday, July 7th - mini Film Festival: Features a variety of Hip-Hop films and a Q&A with established and burgeoning filmmakers.

Saturday, July 10th - De La Soul: Just ahead of a new album to be released this year and will be headlining on the DUMBO waterfront. Earlier in the day, we set it off with Family Day – a block party for families and children that celebrates the core message of Hip-Hop – social change and individual empowerment.
