We are happy to see the opening of one more green-space in BK!
New York’s political front-men were on hand this morning for the opening of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1. Governor Paterson and Mayor Bloomberg were joined by State Senator Dan Squadron, Assemblywoman Joan Millman and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
The finished park, designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, will encompass 85 acres and stretch along the Brooklyn waterfront from Atlantic Ave. to Jay St. While Brooklynites will have to wait for Piers 2-6 to open, the finished park will offer playgrounds, lawn space, running and bike paths, playing fields and what we at Brooklyn365 are most excited about, a “calm water area” for the novice canoer and kayaker in all of us.
According to a NY Times article, Pier 6 is slated to open later this spring with Mayor Bloomberg expressing optimism “that the remaining pieces of the park will fall into place quickly.”
Check out the park’s new website at brooklynbridgeparknyc.org.
We are looking forward to seeing you all out there.
